Bricknell Preaching: Its Warrant, Subject, and Effects

Bricknell Preaching: Its Warrant, Subject, and Effects

Considered with Reference to the Tracts for the Times.

By William Simcox Bricknell

Summary

This is a brief 8 chapter work by Bricknell (b1806) on Preaching. He examines the warrant and object of Paul’s commission, the subject and effects of Paul’s preaching, and the conviction and consolation through preaching on the Cross of Christ. His appendices are admonitions for preachers, Sacraments versus Preaching as source of divine grace, the atonement not to held forth for conversion of impenitent, grievous misrepresentation of the views and teaching of Tractarians “Ultra-Protestant Party, and some extracts from Froude’s remains. I have not tracked down everything yet, but basically this looks to be an Anglican work dealing with “Tractarians” which would be people who attack issues in the religious environment with tracts (pamphlets).

Buy me Burrito!
Burritos are delicious. Meat, beans, sour cream, veggies, wrapped in a tortilla. We all enjoy burritos! But you know that you cannot have what is good without somebody paying for it. If you have enjoyed things on my website, please consider helping me maintain the expenses of this site. Consider at least a one time donation to this ministry of $10 or $20 dollars? Very infrequently (one person every 3-6 months) will somebody donate something. Usually that is all I receive from 34 websites! Yet, from my download statistics, I have about 96 gigabytes total being downloaded monthly from all of these websites. Be a blessing to me and donate any amount. It would be really great if you could gift me and my wife (who splits a burrito?) this money so that we could enjoy eating out at least once in a while. (I pay the expenses for these sites out of our living expenses.) God will richly bless you and repay you for your generosity. 1 Timothy 5:18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. If you received some value from my websites, consider at least a small donation. A big donation would really be nice, too, though.

bs32 Should we seek the Holy Spirit?
examines the question of seeking the Holy Spirit, or do Christians already have Him. This tract presents the argument that Scripture clearly teaches that God seals the believer at the moment of accepting Jesus with the Holy Spirit. If that is so (and we show these verses), then God cannot allow a person to (1) believe and be saved, but (2) not have the sealing of the Holy Spirit indwelling.

Missionary on Furlough Spiritual Needs
is an article by David Cox (veteran missionary) to help pastors and missionaries understand missionary needs.
Excerpt: When a pastor "takes in a missionary on deputation or furlough", he ministers to that missionary.... Pastors also need this encouragement as much as missionaries need it. When they get together to fellowship, they are able to encourage one another. But every pastor ministering to a returning missionary should encourage them along these lines of faithfulness and reward in eternity.
Topics: Introduction | Unfit Missionaries that should not be missionaries at all | Stop the Merry-go-round, I want to get off | Some Tips for Pastors Encouraging Missionaries | 1. Do not undermine their way of leading or doing the ministry | 2. The two essential elements are talk and prayer. | 3. Get more than just the pastor involved in praying for the missionary. | Remind your missionary by asking for an update if it has been a while. | Effectively disseminate prayer requests.
