The Destiny Of the Soul, A Critical History of the Doctrine of a Future Life

by William Rounseville Alger (1878)

Note that this is simply a secular study on the future life, including the Bible’s point of view of heaven and hell. Although being from a secular point of view, it is of limited value as far as what the Scripture says, because I (the editor David Cox) don’t believe the viewpoint of the author is a believing person’s viewpoint. Nonetheless, the book has a tremendous amount of material from non-biblical sources, from difference religious and cultural groups perspectives about heaven and hell, and in some case this is of some value in comparing with the truth, therefore I include this work. It should be noted that this has been a standard textbook in some circles for 20 years, and has 10 editions of the book which would seem to indicate that some people think it is of great value.

You know, I work hard at my websites trying to provide you with good material that is sound doctrinally-speaking and of interest to God's people. It is hard work, but I don't mind doing it, and I feel called to the ministry, and God will bless me after all is said and done. But in the meantime, I do need to cover my expenses. I have a total of 34 websites (half English and half Spanish), and each one costs about $10 per month to keep up. That does not take into consideration my time and effort in writing content. Won't you consider at least a one time donation to this ministry of $10 or $20 dollars? It would be really great if you could gift me and my wife this money so that we could enjoy eating out at least once in a while. (I pay the expenses for these sites out of our living expenses.) God will richly bless you and repay you for your generosity. 1 Timothy 5:18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. If you received some value from my websites, consider at lest a small donation. A big donation would really be nice, too though.

pc50 Narcissism versus Love
explains how our world is very much like that described in the Bible as the last days. Narcissism is love of one's self, 2Tim 3:2-4. I describe a narcissistic person, and what the Bible says about them.
Extract and topics: But how do we really identify the narcissist? Many people are narcissists and don't know it... Lovers of their own selves. | Lovers of pleasure, not of God. | Covetous and Miserly. | Arrogant, Boasting, and Haughty. | Disobedient to parents, unthankful, and without natural affection. | Traitors (and truce breakers). | Traitors (and truce breakers). | Incontinent (implacable). | False Accusers | Biblical Love is the opposite | The Divine “Remedy” for Narcissism
